Linking your bank

Sumwright reads your balances and transactions to build your plan. The connection is read-only, handled by Plaid, and works the same on every device.

Read-only, always. Sumwright connects through Plaid to read balances and transactions. It has no ability to move money — it plans your payments and then confirms them from your real transactions; you make each payment yourself, with your own bank.

Before you start

You’ll need to have finished the two-factor authenticator setup — Sumwright requires it before the first bank connection. Sumwright supports US bank accounts in US dollars today.

Connect an account

1

Open Accounts and choose “Link a bank”

iPhone & Android
Go to the Accounts tab and tap Link a bank.
Mac & Windows
Open Accounts and click Link a bank.
2

Pick your bank and sign in — inside Plaid

Plaid’s secure screen opens. Search for your bank and enter your online-banking credentials directly into Plaid. Sumwright never sees or stores them.

3

Choose which accounts to share

Select the checking, savings, or card accounts you want Sumwright to read. You can add more later.

4

Let Sumwright build your picture

Sumwright pulls a few months of history to detect your income, recurring bills, and subscriptions, and to categorize transactions. This takes a moment the first time.

Manage connected accounts

iPhone & Android
In the Accounts tab you can rename an account, add another bank, or disconnect one.
Mac & Windows
The same controls live under Accounts — add, rename, or disconnect.
Sandbox / test data looks sparse. If you connected a test institution, you may see few or no recurring streams. Connect a real bank with a few months of history to see the full picture.

Troubleshooting

A bank won’t connect: some institutions occasionally rate-limit Plaid — wait a few minutes and retry. Make sure you’re entering credentials into the Plaid screen, not a look-alike.

Transactions look incomplete: the first sync can take a little time; pull to refresh (mobile) or reopen the Accounts view (desktop).
