Understanding your bill forecast
Sumwright predicts what’s coming so you can act while you still have room to move. Here’s exactly how that works — and, just as importantly, what it doesn’t do.
These are predictive estimates, not payment dates
Every forecast in Sumwright is an estimate derived from your own transaction history. It is not a bill, not an invoice, and not a commitment from us or from your provider about when money will actually leave your account. Merchants change their billing dates, amounts change, and cycles shift.
Always treat your official statements as the source of truth. Sumwright is a planning aid, not a payment guarantee, and we accept no liability for a payment missed or mistimed on the basis of a forecast.
How do we predict bills?
We look at what you have actually paid. When a merchant shows up repeatedly in your transaction history, we measure the typical gap between those charges and the typical amount, and project the next one forward. Credit card cycles, utilities and subscription renewals all surface the same way.
We use the median of past amounts rather than the average, so a single unusual month doesn’t distort the estimate.
Why is a bill missing?
Most often, because we don’t have enough history to be confident about the pattern yet. A merchant needs to appear more than once before a cadence can be established. The longer your linked history, the better the forecast gets.
A bill can also be missing because we deliberately left it out — see below.
Why would you leave something out?
Because we would rather show you nothing than show you a number we can’t stand behind.
If a transaction is in a currency we cannot price against your account’s currency, we exclude it from the forecast rather than converting it at a guessed rate. Silently mixing currencies would produce a total that looks precise and is wrong — and a confidently wrong number in a financial app is worse than a missing one, because you would act on it.
The same principle runs through the whole product. Where we can’t be accurate, we say so instead of guessing.
What currencies and banks are supported?
Today, Sumwright supports US bank accounts, in US dollars. We do not currently support international accounts, and we do not perform currency conversion in your forecast.
We’d rather tell you that plainly than imply a capability we haven’t built.
